Over the past few decades, military modernisation has been a number one priority for the Chinese Communist Party. In pursuit of this goal, the CCP has established programmes and schemes to transfer technology and knowledge from advanced countries to China, both legally and illegally, to support key Chinese companies developing dual-use technology in certain industries, such as IT, and to raise the level of Chinese science and research, including by fostering person-to-person exchanges with the West, and channel human resources into the military-industrial complex.
UK-China Transparency is conducting a rolling slate of research projects into relationships between British companies and universities on the one hand, and Chinese entities that are related to the military or involved in sensitive industries on the other hand.
