UKCT has published a report by two journalists about BGI Group, a Chinese genomics company. The report uses Freedom of Information (FOI) requests to analyse the extent of BGI Group’s footprint in UK universities, and features interviews with geneticists discussing the potential risks of working with BGI.
The report also investigates a contract awarded to BGI Group by the UK Health Security Agency.
UKCT did not author the report, however, we have added notes where appropriate and updated the report to reflect new FOI responses that have been published by universities since the original report was written. This report and associated data will be of use to those hoping to understand the way universities and academics have evaluated the risks of working with BGI Group.
The report can be read here. The data is stored in UKCT’s digital library in a folder entitled ‘BGI Group’. BGI’s full statements in response can be read here.
