UKCT conducts rigorous, independent research on ties between the UK and China. In order to guard this independence, we have adopted the following rules:
- We will not accept commissioned work controlled by the donor and designed to reach a predetermined conclusion.
- We will not accept funding from foreign governments.
- We will not accept donations from anonymous accounts where we are not aware of the identity of the donor.
- All donations over £5,000 will be reviewed by our trustees.
- All donations from our trustees and advisors will be publicly acknowledged regardless of size.
- All donations from companies will be publicly acknowledged.
- We will not accept any funding that compromises our independence.
Further information as of 14/10/2025
The trustees who have donated to UKCT to date are Andrew Robinson, Sir Bernard Silverman, and Martin Village. The vast majority (more than 90%) of our funding comes from British citizens acting as individuals. The remaining fraction consists mostly of a grant from a British charity. Less than 0.5% of our funding consists of very small donations from individuals residing abroad.
UKCT has received no donations from any companies, or from the British government. However, UKCT is developing an educational offering for the private sector, government, universities, think-tanks and other organisations. We are doing so in collaboration with a small consultancy, which will lead on this work, which is expected to generate income for UKCT from all of the sectors mentioned above.
We are in the process of developing our new website, which will feature further information about this.
Our first annual report, which contains further financial details, can be read below:
