On the 25th of April, Mark Kitto will put on a performance of his acclaimed one-man play, Chinese Boxing, in aid of UK-China Transparency. Tickets and full details are available here.
Mark Kitto’s name became well known after he wrote a memoir about his experiences in China, That’s China. After setting up a successful magazine business, Kitto had a run in with state censors and ultimately his company was seized in the early noughties.
Chinese Boxing tells the story of China’s Boxer Rebellion – from both a British and a Chinese perspective. The show has been touring the UK and Europe. According to Cindy Yu, China editor of The Spectator, it’s ‘intelligent and humorous. A very good place to start if you want to understand China.’
